For this year’s platinum dinner, we met on October 24th at the Restaurant Heugümper in Zürich for an interesting dinner with Sibylle Spengler, president of Swiss Fundraising and head of public fundraising at Helvetas.
Sibylle told us everything there is to know about the fundraising industry in Switzerland. The material was presented as a “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”.
Some of the information included:
- 84% of Swiss households donate on average CHF 300 per year
- In 2017 donations amounted to CHF 1.85 billion
- The annual inheritance volume in Switzerland totals roughly CHF 65 billion and only about 1% thereof is bequeathed to NPOs
- Fundraising is not very digital. Only 2.5% of the total volume is donated through digital channels (SMS etc.)
During the following dinner we could discuss some more “interesting” questions:
For example, did you know that the letters with some less useful give-away still bring in more money than the normal letters asking for support.
Instead of a gift, Sybille asked us to donate the money to an NGO of her choosing. As the Simonites have a special amount to donate this year, the board decided to donate a total of CHF 4’000 in the name of the Rochester-Bern alumni to Vivamos Mejor.
This event was again a great success and we would like to encourage you to register for the Platinum Membership Program.
In order to become a member of the alumni network, the Simonites propose various options. The highest value version is the "Platinum Membership" with an annual fee of CHF 500. This special membership gives you the opportunity to participate in the annual Platinum Dinner. In a very pleasant atmosphere, this special event will be accompanied by an interesting speech and an exquisite dinner.
